Russian Federal Security Service destroying Litvinenko’s books
The lot of books by Alexander Litvinenko and Yury Felshtinsky, Blowing up Russia,
withdrawn earlier by the Investigatory directorate of the Federal Security
Service (FSB) of Russia within the framework of a criminal case has been
destroyed, online paper Grani.ru reports, referring to the press service
of social movement For Human Rights.

bodies in connection with the complaints received in connection with the withdrawal

the FSB replied to this complaint. It was said that withdrawal of books has
been provided within the framework of a criminal case and the withdrawn copies
have been attached to materials as material evidence.
In January, 2004, the editor-in-chief of human rights news agency Prima, Alexander
Podrabinek, was interrogated by the FSB as a witness on criminal case on the
fact of disclosure of the state secret in the books, Blowing up Russia, and
LPG — Lubyanka Criminal Grouping. At the questioning, the senior investigator
of the Investigatory directorate of the FSB, Alexander Soima, told Podrabinek
that the printed books had been withdrawn as material evidence. He added that
this book, no less than other book by Litvinenko, LPG — Lubyanka Criminal
Grouping, would be withdrawn from sale. The investigator declared that there
was an experts’ ruling and it was enough for their withdrawal.
On January 16, 2007, the criminal case was stopped because of death of the
accused Litvinenko, the FSB confirmed. "The specified lot of books has
been destroyed", the statement said.
The role of the FSB in blasts of apartment houses in Moscow in September, 1999,
is described in Blowing up Russia, written by Litvinenko and Felstinsky. Litvinenko
died in November, 2006, in London from poisoning with radioactive polonium.
